Located
about l3 kms. (8 miles) east of 70
Mile House, Green lake is an outstanding family lake. Situated
amongst rolling hills of meadows, aspen and pine, this beautiful
lake shines of Caribbean blue/green colors. With water that is incredibly
warm, some of the best beaches in BC and 2 fabulous provincial park
campgrounds, Green lake is a jewel for vacationing families. Boat
launching, many resorts and dude ranches are found all around the
lake.
Besides
the swimming, waterskiing and horseback riding, Green lake offers
many wildlife viewing areas along with free ranging cattle and even
a buffalo ranch located on its south side. Rainbow
and kokanee
are found in the lake but it is not generally considered a good
fishing lake, however, there is not a better lake to use as a base
camp from which you can explore hundreds of tremendous fishing lakes
in the immediate vicinity. There are more than 8,000 lakes in the
Cariboo/Chilcotin region.

The
aspen forests and open meadows provide some of the most delightful
walking trails found anywhere. On a sunny day, pause for a few minutes.
Sit down in the grass, close your eyes and relax; enjoy the rustle
of the leaves, and the scent of chamomile and clover on the afternoon
breeze.
If
you're looking for adventure, ask directions then set out on one
of the many back roads found in the area. You'll pass old homesteads,
grazing cattle and deer, and countless little lakes. Stop for a
picnic, watch the waterfowl or cast your fly line. And, don't forget
to take some pictures! You'll want to remember this for ever.
All
in all Green lake should be rated as one of the best family lakes
in BC and should be high on your priority list when visiting the
Cariboo - you'll never regret it and you'll find yourself coming
back over and over again.
Special events: Fishing Derby - An annual event. Fish in Watch Lake and Green
Lake. There are lots of prizes big & small. Check with a local resort
for details and dates.
Green
Lake/Watch Lake Gymkhana. Held twice each summer on the second
saturdays in July and August. The word gymkhana means "horses at
play", and that's a great description. Both novices and experienced
riders compete in skill testing and often outrageous events: the
boot scramble, musical tires, barrel racing, stake races, keyhole
races and more. There's concession stand and 'Bavarian Garden' under
the aspens.
Bingos
every Friday night in July & August at the Watch Lake Hall. Sponsored
by the Womens Institute.
For
details, stop at Watch Lake Lodge (456-7741) on the north shore
of Watch Lake or the 70 Mile Store.
Note:Always check your current BC Fishing regulations before you start
fishing a new lake.
