This 256 hectare park offers outdoor adventure year-round; hiking,
boating and swimming in the summer, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing
and tobogganing in the winter.
Most of
the parks area is made up of natural wetlands and forests where lodgepole
pine, trembling aspen and white spruce grow on the dry, gravelly soil.
The West
Lake Provincial Park offers superb habitat for moose, deer, beaver and
a wide variety of birdlife such as the osprey and belted kingfisher.
LOCATION
The
park is located 22 km southwest of Prince
George on the West Lake Road.
PARK
FACILITIES & ACTIVITIES
Day-use
facilities - The expansive, sandy beaches of West Lake are the
perfect place for a picnic or just to relax. Changehouses, fire pits
and picnic tables are located nearby. Also provided in the park are
a play field, volleyball nets and horseshoe pits. Two group picnic
areas are available for groups of up to 100. The park is wheelchair
accessible. The day-use area and boat launch are open from 8:00 am
to dusk.
Fishing
and Boating - A boat launch is provided for those interested
in boating, water skiing or fishing. The lake has been stocked with
rainbow trout.
Hiking
and Skiing - An extensive 15 km trail system winds through the
park making it a haven for cross-country skiers. Enclosed shelters
are located beside the lake for warming up. In summer these trails
offer rustic walking paths.
