Fishing
Report: Bolean provides a good Rainbow fishery for trout
up to 2-1/2 lbs. Leeches, Gammarus shrimp along with Chironomids,
Damselfly, Caddisfly and Dragonflies provide good food sources for
these trout. Of course, fly fishing is very popular, but trolling
with small lures, flatfish and spinning gear also meet with good
sucess.
Viewscape:
Situated near the top of a plateau in the Spa Hills, Bolean is surrounded
by gently rolling hills forested in Balsam fir and Englemann spruce.
Cutblocks can be seen on the west and southeast sides.
Shoreline:
Bolean is surrounded by a 1-2 m. (3.3-6.6 ft.) band of sedge, which
widens to 5-7 m. (16-23 ft.) along the south shore. Dead conifers
also surround the lake with sparse deciduous growth along the shoreline.
The lake is shallow in the south half, and a small island can be
found halfway along the the length of the lake near the east shore.
The north half of the lake drops off sharply to a maximum depth
of 12 m. (39.4 ft.). There is very little aquatic vegitation, and
the substrate is mainly organic overlaying rock.
