The
182 hectare Mabel Lake Provincial Park is the ideal setting to relax,
enjoy the beaches and the surrounding forests.
To the
west are the ponderosa pine and Douglas fir covered slopes of the Thompson
Plateau and to the east is the moister, steeper Shuswap Highland grade
into the Monashee Mountains. Nature enthusiasts and avid photographers
will be pleased to encounter a wide array of wildlife.
Here he will find squirrels, painted turtles, deer, black bears and
a large variety of birds
and waterfowl.
LOCATION
The
park is 60 km east of Vernon on
Highway 6. Turn off at Lumby and
follow the paved road 35 km to the park entrance.
PARK
FACILITIES & ACTIVITIES
There
are 81 campsites within the park, each with water, firewood and
toilets located nearby. An adventure playground, sani-station and
small store in the marina adjacent to the park are also available.
There is a large day-use area with picnic tables provided.
Fishing
& Boating - Boat rentals are available at the marina, making
waterskiing, cruising and off-shore fishing a favorite passtime
for visitors. Anglers
try their luck for game
fish including kokanee, rainbow trout, lake trout, Dolly Varden
and chinook salmon. The lake is popular with canoeists; some portages
are necessary.
Hiking
and Trails - A self-guiding nature trail leads through the park.
