North
of Campbell River turn
off of Hwy 19 onto Hwy 28
and continue west for 92 km (57 miles) to Gold
River and Tahsis.
You will pass Elk Falls Provincial Park and Strathcona
Provincial Park which was established in 1911 as the province's first
and is the largest on Vancouver Island. Strathcona Park provides excellent
hiking
, fishing and canoeing.
Within the park is Mt. Golden Hinde, Vancouver Island's highest peak,
and Della Falls, the highest waterfall in Canada.
Gold
River: Gold River, located 89 km (55 miles) west of Campbell River,
is a logging town with good steelhead fishing and caving nearby.
Nootka
Sound Services:
The Uchuck III has year round freight and passenger service for west coast
destinations in the Nootka Sound and Kyuquot Sound.
Tahsis:
65km (40mi) west of Gold River, at the end of a gravel road, is the forestry
town of Tahsis. In the 1940's Tahsis was a floating logging camp bit in
the 1950's the mill expanded and the town started. This area offers good
fishing,
hiking, caving, canoeing, kayaking
and chartered
cruises.

Great Walk - The Tahsis Lions Club Annual Great Walk is billed
as North America's toughest pledge walk. It takes place the first Saturday
in June on 63.5 km (40 miles) of gravel logging road between Gold River
& Tahsis on Vancouver Island, BC. Advance registration is required.
