Boswell, BC
Kootenay Lake

The highway winds through this quiet community, on the East side of Kootenay Lake, providing dramatic vistas of towering mountains and sparkling water.

Boswell has been farmed for over 100 years and because of the temperate climate, fruit growing became the major industry. There were no roads early on, and everything was shipped in by paddle wheeler. With the abundance of fruit, and the slow access to markets, the community decided to build a jam factory to process the more perishable fruit, while apples and cherries were shipped to the US and other areas.

As time passed, and the road was built, people moved to other areas where different industries flourished. Gone was the paddle wheeler, jam factory and all of the farms. Boswell evolved into a quiet retirement community that stretches along the lake.

Due to the nearness of the lake, the mild climate and small population, it has been a long time tourist haven. It is a welcoming place for those who want to get away from the hassle of every day life. With numerous campsites, Bed & Breakfast facilities and restaurants, Boswell is a quiet welcoming home for those who want peace and tranquility.

Walk the beaches or wander in the woods, visit the Glass House, the art galleries, roadside attractions, and hiking trails. Slow down for the many deer and wild turkeys, or sit on the beach at Lockhart or Mackie Park. There are several places to launch your boat, so come and do some fishing.
