Established
in 1890's when the smelter was constructed to utilize the
ores mined in Rossland, the city of Trail grew up along the
banks of the Columbia River.
A
large influx of Italian immigrants in the early 1900's has
lent a distinctive character to Trail. Silver City Days celebrations
includes grape stomping, parades and pasta dinners.
The 1961 Trail Smoke Eaters won the World Hockey Championships.
Not until 1994, 33 years after The Smoke Eaters victory, would
a Canadian team win the tournament again. Trail teams have
also won five Canadian Little League Baseball Championships.
The community hosted the 1995 Babe Ruth World Series for 16-18
yr. olds.
