Vernon to Enderby

Floral Clock in Polson Park

Vernon:
Vernon's location has played a large role in its history due to its proximity to the surrounding lakes which provided transportation and irrigation to this agricultural mecca. Although slightly colder and wetter than the Southern Okanagan, Vernon grows excellent hardier fruits such as apples, plums and prunes as well as good grass crops.

Greater Vernon Museum and Archives:
Located at 3009-32nd Avenue, the museum and archives feature exhibits of the areas history.

Polson Park:
Within the park grounds is Luc Girouard's cabin, an early white settler. It is located at 25th and 132nd Streets.

O'Keefe Historic Ranch:
This historic ranch was one of the largest at the turn of the century. Founded in 1867 by Cornelius O'Keefe it prospered for many years until being named a historic site in 1977. Tours of the general store, blacksmith shops, church and mansion are available. The O'Keefe Ranch is located 12 km (7 miles) north of Vernon on Highway 97 towards Kamloops via Falkland and Monte Creek.

The Swan lake Junction is located 15 km (9 miles) north of Vernon. From here Highway 97 turns west to the TransCanada Highway #1 and Kamloops or continue north along Highway 97A to the Okanagan-Spallumcheen Valley.

Shuswap River - Enderby Armstrong:
Situated in the fertile Spallumcheen Valley, this area is home to many ranches and dairy farms.

Armstrong-Spallumcheen Museum:
The museum features turn of the century agriculture and railway artifacts. It is located on Railway Avenue.

Armstrong Cheese Factory:
A guided tour is available here along with a slide show and displays.

Enderby:
Enderby is situated on the banks of the Shuswap River and once played a large role in the history and development of the North Okanagan. Today agriculture and forestry are the main economic stays. Canoeing and kayaking is enjoyed on Mabel Lake, the Shuswap River and Mara Lake.

North of Enderby on Highway 97B is the junction to the Trans Canada Highway and Salmon Arm. Highway 97A continues north to Grinrod, Mara Provincial Park and Sicamous (High Country)
